Causes of Hungry But No Appetite and How to Combat Them

The inability to eat or feel like eating when you’re hungry is a condition called anorexia. It’s not that you don’t have an appetite; rather, it means you aren’t hungry at that given moment and cannot taste your food. In addition you don’t have an appetite. 

What is the difference between an appetite and hunger?

When you are hungry, you want to eat something, especially food that’s high in calories, like a slice of cake or a sandwich, or food items like cheese or nuts that are high in protein. You crave for specific dishes at certain times and generally, you have an appetite for certain foods. When you have an appetite, you eat when the food is close enough to you and you have the capacity to eat it. If it’s too far, you don’t feel like eating it. When you have an appetite, you’re able to taste and enjoy the food you eat. However, when you have no appetite, you can’t taste the food you’re eating and it feels like a chore to consume it.

Underlying causes of no appetite

– Depression and Anxiety: If you have been experiencing bouts of depression and anxiety lately, you may notice that you have no appetite. This is because depression and anxiety are conditions that inhibit appetite.

 – Tiredness & Fatigue: If you’re tired or fatigued, you may not have the energy to eat. If you’re always tired, you may find that you have no appetite.

– Digestive Issues: If you have been experiencing indigestion, you may have noticed that you have no appetite. You may have even lost your appetite this is a sign that something is wrong with your digestive system.

 – Conclusion: If you’ve had a traumatic experience, you may notice that you have no appetite at all. This could be a sign that you’re struggling with post traumatic stress disorder. If this is the case, you should see a therapist for help.
