How To Get Out Of It

An identity crisis is a difficult time when you feel like you have lost your sense of self. It is a period filled with uncertainty, confusion and fear of losing yourself even further. You might be going through an identity crisis if you are asking yourself one or more of the following questions: Who am I? Do I like who I am? Who do I want to be? These can be scary moments for anyone, but it’s important not to panic. An identity crisis is a natural part of growing up and figuring out who you are as a person. Read on to know how to deal with an identity crisis.

What is an identity crisis?

A person has an identity when they know who they are and they know what they believe in. An identity crisis is a period in your life when you feel uncertain about your identity. You may not know who you are or what you want out of life. You may feel confused and anxious. An identity crisis can happen at any age, but it is most common during adolescence and early adulthood. A person in an identity crisis may:

  • Have trouble figuring out what to do with his or her life.
  • Have trouble deciding what kind of person he or she wants to be.
  • Feel confused about who he or she is and what he or she wants from life.
  • Feel anxious and worried about the future.
  • Feel lost and uncertain about the path forward in life.

Why do we go through an identity crisis?

Identity crises happen because we start to question things that have always been taken for granted. We start to ask ourselves questions like “Who am I?” and “What do I want to do with my life?” We begin to see that there are many options available to us. We begin to question our values and beliefs. Identity crises happen at pivotal moments in our lives. They happen when we graduate from high school or college. They happen when we are changing jobs or when we are thinking of getting married. They can also happen when we experience big losses in our lives such as the death of a loved one, a divorce, or a serious illness. These events cause us to pause and think about what is important to us.

Tips to get out of an Identity Crisis
