How I Motivate Myself When I Have Zero Motivation

Motivation is a fickle friend. One day it’s with you, the next it’s gone and left you high and dry. Here are some effective ways to get yourself motivated again when your motivation has left the building.
Breathe and Meditate
When you’re feeling unmotivated, it’s easy to get stressed out. Anxiety can be a really big factor in lack of motivation, as can frustration and impatience. All of these negative feelings can be stemmed by taking some time to meditate and breathe. Meditation is a great way to not only get yourself relaxed and feel more at ease, but it also gives you time to process what’s going on in your head. Meditation can be an effective way to get your motivation back on track.
Exercise and Yoga
If you’re feeling unmotivated, your body might be telling you that you need to do something about it. Exercise is a great way to release endorphins, which will not only make you feel better in the moment but will also help you sleep better, which can help you to feel more motivated the next day. Yoga, on the other hand, is a form of meditation, which can help you to focus on your breath and clear your head of all of the negative energy that may be holding you back from feeling motivated.
Read Something That Inspires You
Read something that once again finds you inspired to get back into the groove. Whatever your interests are, there is probably a blog or website that you can read that will once again find you inspired to take action. This is a great way to get yourself motivated again as you’ll find yourself being drawn to action as you read.
Make A To-Do List
When you’re feeling unmotivated, sometimes the best thing to do is to break things down into smaller chunks. If you’ve got a big project that you need to make progress on, but you just don’t have the energy to make yourself do it, then try breaking it down into smaller tasks. Make a to-do list and try to get as much done as you can. It might not be as much as you’d like, but it’ll be something. Getting something done can often be the best way to get yourself motivated again as it will allow you to cross something off your to-do list and feel accomplished.
Go Out and Meet New People
It’s easy to get into a rut when you’re not getting enough socialization. For some people, socialization is a big source of motivation. If you’ve been isolating yourself, then you’re likely to be lacking in motivation. Finding a Meetup group or going to see if anything is going on at your university can help you to meet new people and get yourself out of the house. It’s a great way to get yourself out of a rut and get your motivation back on track.
Write a Morning Ritual
If you’re feeling unmotivated, it might be worth trying to implement a morning ritual. What you do with your time can greatly affect how you feel, so if you’re waking up and spending the day in your pajamas, you’re likely to feel unmotivated. If you’re trying to get yourself motivated, it may be worth trying to implement a morning ritual that gets you into the mood for the day. It could be as simple as listening to music or reading something that inspires you, or it could be as complex as meditation and exercise.
We all have those days where we just can’t find the motivation to do anything, leave alone complete that project, take up that new class, or finish that blog post we’ve been putting off for weeks. When you feel unmotivated, it can be hard to get back into the groove, but there are plenty of things you can do to recharge your batteries and get yourself motivated once again. Just give it a try!
